The truth is that this market stopped being a real market place long time ago. With 80% tourists and 20% local people that serve the tourists food and souvenirs (on floating boats naturaly), this place will not be the most authentic market you will see in Thailand. But all in all, it really is a floating market, and if you really want, you can get those very nice "floating market pictures" pretty easy. So - if you have few days in Bangkok, I recommend to go there.
If you do plan to get there, take a tip: We thought we should travel to the village near the market the day before so we can see it at dawn. Well, you really don't have to do it this way. Taking the standard half-day bus trip from Bangkok is all that you need.
